Why Civic Impact Matters in Local Government

September 02, 2026 / Deepti Goil

Public service is measured in moments.
A resident finding the right answer without frustration. A small business getting a permit update on time. A family receiving clear information about a local service. A department reducing paperwork so staff can focus on people. A community seeing government become easier to access and easier to trust.
These moments matter. They are also the reason TechForGov created the Civic Impact Awards

Where residents meet public service

Local government is often where residents interact most directly with public service. The experience may be digital, in person, over the phone, by email, or through a form. No matter the channel, the expectation is the same: clear information, timely service, and trust.
The Civic Impact Awards are intended to highlight the people and teams improving those experiences.

Impact, not size

Some nominees may be recognized for innovation. Others may be recognized for leadership, resident service, operational excellence, or responsible use of technology. Some may represent large counties. Others may come from smaller communities with limited resources and a strong commitment to service.
The size of the organization is not the point.
The impact is.

What makes a strong nomination

The strongest nominations will show how a public service challenge was addressed, who benefited, and what changed because of the effort. That could include measurable results, but it could also include better access, improved communication, stronger coordination, or a more trusted experience for residents.

Sharing what works

At TechForGov, this program is about more than recognition. It is about creating a platform to share practical examples that other local governments can learn from.
Because when good public service ideas are shared, more communities benefit.
Nominations for the Civic Impact Awards are opening in July 2026.
